Fallen Sparrows by Adam Parry

Fallen Sparrows

Webbed

I caught the heart thief,

caught her in a pale veil,

like a duvet,  or an armour of song.

Covers over us completely as we levitate on lips.

Until sleep, our protector, is blown away.

Huddling, vulnerable as children,

the Land and sky, you and I, but

watched by baleful stars whose cold light sees all,

thoughtless as cruel necessity.

Inert we lie my love and I

as unnoticed as a fallen sparrow.

Unhoped we too fly off, look

down to see heart-threads mend men’s dreams, and

the fallen sparrows soar.
